De Bruyne and the Half Space
One of the Premier Leagues most exciting players is Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne. Click on the link below to view the video.
A common feature of Pep Guardiola is maximum width. By stretching the field with wingers this allows room for attacking midfielders to attack the half space.
This is done by either running in behind the opposition full back or if the winger gets a 1v1 with the full back he is always able to play back into the half space for a cross to be whipped in.
Pep Guardiola also uses a false 9 a lot where striker come short to collect pulling centre backs out of position and creating room for attacking Midfielders to run into.
Below is an analysis of City vs Fulham from the Carabao Cup earlier this year. De Bruyne has it all.
Great movement and timing
Ability to shoot from distance
Strength to hold off opponents
Excellent crossing ability
Urgency to regain ball in T2D
Blistering change of pace
