Liverpool Front 3 Pressing Analysis
With spring in the air and the start of the soccer season fast approaching, I was inspired to write the below Liverpool match analysis.
With high pressing Liverpool's goal with the front 3 is to take out as many of the oppositions defenders as possible. Firminho marks the holding midfield player. If opponents play with 2 holders then he occupies both and travels to the side that the ball is played out to.
Salah and Mane occupy the oppositions center backs and full backs. If ball played to center back they close down showing CB inside and not down the line. A run is made to prevent the FB getting on the ball.
Opposite winger then comes inside to provide support and narrow the field.
With a high pressing game, everyone must be clear of their roles and responsibilities.
With Liverpool's height in the back line especially with Van Dijk they cope well with long balls played up to the striker and are first to win any second balls. Midfield support is key to arrive around where ball drops.
Good fitness levels and tactical understanding are key to Liverpool's defensive organisation!
Cheers!
