Antoine Griezmann Work Rate
This week we feature French international Antoine Griezmann.
We all know Griezmann for his goals and being a World Cup winner so I wanted to focus this video on everything else he does aside from scoring.
In Diego Simeone's 442 Atletico Madrid, Griezmann and Morata stay close together when defending from the front to prevent balls going into the midfield where Atletico are outnumbered.
When defending they force the opponents wide and then depending on which side the ball is on Morata or Griezmann will shadow the oppositions defensive midfield player which prevents play going back into the center.
Atletico like to play deep and on the counter.
You will see Griezmann who is more mobile and quicker than Morata drop deep to collect the ball on transition acting as a number 10.
This allows Atletico to combine short quick passes to build play and move forward rather than look for long ball over the top.
Griezmann likes to roam when in possession to areas where he can get on the ball and pick passes.
His ball retention is fantastic on transition and knows when to speed the game up and when to slow down. This comes under excellent decision making skills.
Key features:
-Drops deep to receive in transition
-By dropping deep adds extra protection for midfield preventing central balls
-Constantly scanning and finding pockets of space
-Incredible work rate to get up and down the field
-Outstanding decision making with pass selection and speed of play (when to play forward or when to recycle)
-Team player
Anotine Griezmann is certainly one of the top goal scorers in world football but as seen his work rate and tactical understanding of the game makes him one of the best Team Players in world football also. One thing is for sure, whoever acquires his services for 2019/2020 season is in for a gem of a football player.
